Total War Warhammer 3: Diplomacy guide

Last Updated:

In previous games in the Total War: Warhammer series, allying with AI-controlled factions was not always a worthwhile investment. In comparison to impressive Diplomacy options featured in other Total War games, the system was somewhat stripped-down and basic. But with Total War: Warhammer 3, that is now a thing of the past!

Total War Warhammer 3’s AI is closer than ever to replicating a true multiplayer Total War experience. While players may have felt that in the past it was best to focus on combat and conquest, now diplomatic alliances are a truly valid option in single-player campaigns.

Join us as we walk you through how Diplomacy has been updated in Total War Warhammer 3.

Total War Warhammer 3 Outposts

First and foremost, Total War Warhammer 3 gives you the ability to build outposts in allied factions’ territory. This is a remarkable addition chiefly because it allows you to recruit units of their faction to add to yours! This adds such a huge amount of variety and flexibility, deepening the customizability of your faction. Shoring up its weaknesses and adding to its strengths.

Warning

When other factions trespass in your territory, the new Warning feature allows you greater control of how you respond and react. No longer do you have to wait for neutral factions – or those currently in agreements – to spring a trap and convert to hostile. If you send a Warning to a faction and they do not leave your territory within two rounds, you are able to declare war on them without suffering Treachery penalties.

Total War Warhammer 3 Settlement trading

Total War Warhammer 3 finally allows you to trade settlements with other factions. You can offer an even trade, or simply strong-arm them into accepting your demands.  When offering to trade settlements, you must offer settlements that are adjacent to the other faction’s territory.

You have several options available to you when trading settlements. You are able to perform a one-for-one exchange, swapping control of one of your settlements for one of theirs. Alternatively, you are simply able to give one of your settlements to an allied faction, receiving no territory in return. This can allow you to bolster your allies’ power. Potentially setting them up to be added to a confederation further down the road.

Quick Deal

Total War fans will be overjoyed to hear that Quick Deal has been integrated into Total War: Warhammer 3. For those that feel as though Total War: Warhammer 3 already has options and mechanics piling up, Quick Deal offers a way around those worries.

Quick Deal allows you to act diplomatically in a streamlined and beneficial fashion.  The Quick Deal screen lists all currently available diplomatic options, ranked in order of which deals are most likely to be accepted by other factions.

You can toggle between non-aggression pacts, trade agreements, military access, defensive alliance, military alliance, join confederation and peace treaties on the fly. And their deal chance/likelihood of success statistic is displayed prominently right next to the options available. This allows you to easily keep track of your options and pursue which avenues you believe will most likely lead to success. And not only that, Quick Deal allows you to stack up multiple agreements and demands at the same time, as opposed to selecting them all individually. This hugely speeds up the whole diplomatic process.

Total War: Warhammer 3 has added a host of options that enhance and speed up the diplomatic process, revitalizing players who wish for a more complex and interesting experience.
